Louis Assier-Andrieu

Louis Assier-Andrieu obtained a Ph.D. in social and historical anthropology (Paris, EHESS, 1980), and a Ph.D. in Law (Toulous I, 1985). He also obtained a Ph.D. in literature and humanities (Paris, EHESS, 1995). He is currently research director at the CNRS (Centre d’études européennes de Sciences Po) and professor at Sciences Po’s School of Law.

His research activities cross various disciplines, and are dedicated to anthropology, epistemology and law history, institutions and politics, the socio-anthropological approach of norms, anthropology of culture history, and institutions and societies.

Louis Assier-Andrieu has taught in various French (EHESS-ENS, ENM, ENA, etc.), European (université catholique de Bruxelles, Barcelona university, Madrid university, etc.) and North American institutions (Yale, Chicago, Columbia universities, etc.), where he was notably a Fellow at Cornell university and professor at Tulane university’s School of Law.

He is also member of the editorial boards in several French and international journals of law, political science, sociology and anthropology.

Besides his academic and scientific career, Louis Assier-Andrieu was also project manager at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Interior Ministry, Ministry of Justice, and co-fonded, with N. Maestracci, the GIP Mission de Recherche Droit et Justice.
