Christophe Jamin

Christophe Jamin holds a doctorate in law from the Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne (1990) and he successfully completed the agrégation in private law and criminal science (1993). He was member of the Bar of Paris (1988-1994) and the secretary of the organization’s Conférence du stage (1990).
After teaching at McGill University in Montreal as a Boulton Fellow (1985-1986) and lecturing at the Université de Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne (1991-1993), he became a full professor the Faculty of Law of the Université de Lille 2 (1993-2005) where he served as associate-dean (1998-2002) and taught the law of obligations, commercial contracts and the philosophy of law. He also created and directed at Lille 2 the master's program in contract law (1994-2003) and the Centre René-Demogue on the law of obligations and legal theory (1994-2005). He is currently a full professor at Sciences Po, where he is Dean of the Law School and where he directs the master's program in droit économique. Since 2008, he has been a Senior Boulton Fellow at McGill University and the research director for the Centre d'Études et de Recherches des Avocats of the Conseil National des Barreaux, the French National Bar Association.
He was a junior member of the Institut universitaire de France (1995-2000) and a visiting professor at the Universities of London (2004), California (Berkeley, 1999) and Sfax (Tunisia, 1998). He speaks regularly at conferences and participates in many seminars in universities, both in France and abroad (including the universities of Amsterdam, Cambridge, Gand, Harvard, Montreal and Porto). He is the secretary-general of the Revue trimestrielle de droit civil (since 1997) and a member of the editorial board of the Archives de philosophie du droit, of the Advisory Board of the European Private Law Review Review and of the Consulting Board of the European Review of Contract Law; he is also an associate member of the International Academy of Comparative Law.
Christophe Jamin is the author of several books, including an essay on La Doctrine (Dalloz, 2004), co-written with Philippe Jestaz, and in collaboration with Jacques Ghestin and Marc Billiau, a volume of the Traité de droit civil, by Jacques Ghestin on Les effets du contrat (LGDJ, 3rd edition, 2001). He has edited several publications, including Droit et économie des contrats (LGDJ, 2008) and, in collaboration with Denis Mazeaud, La nouvelle crise du contrat (Dalloz, 2003), L'harmonisation du droit des contrats en Europe (Economica, 2001) and L'unilatéralisme et le droit des obligations (LGDJ, 1999). He has published a number of articles on the law of obligations and on the history of contemporary legal thought, including Demogue et son temps (2006), Efficacité et justice (2007) and L'enseignement du Droit à Sciences Po (2007).
