Common Core Curriculum

Program objectives

The Master-level common core curriculum, an integral part of Sciences Po's educational project, is designed to impart knowledge and skills which will enable future graduates to confront today's changing world and to become themselves agents of change. Course offerings include thematic interdisciplinary classes, in the transdisciplinary tradition of Sciences Po. These courses draw on intellectual tools from across the entire social science spectrum, bringing them to bear on crucial issues raised by contemporary societies, issues which often can only be addressed through a systemic and comprehensive approach.

These classes provide a unique opportunity for Science Po students from different programs to mingle, and contribute to giving our students a cohesive identity and sense of community.

Main Orientations and Specific Features

The common core courses are deeply informed by Sciences Po's policy of pedagogical innovation. Depending on their content and the teacher's approach, they are organized as seminars or as lectures coupled with methodological conferences.

Academic Requirements

All students enrolled in a Sciences Po Master Program must choose two "common core" courses during their Master. Successful completion of these courses is required to obtain the degree.
