Program objectives
The Human Resources Management Master Program at Sciences Po is designed for students looking for careers in strategic human resources management and in management consulting, either at companies or consulting firms. The second year of the Master program is structured around a combination of coursework and professional work experience.
To train HR specialists capable of meeting recruiters’ requirements, this Master focuses on four key educational objectives:
- acquisition of solid knowledge of the corporate world, management tools and labor law;
- familiarity with the international environment (courses in foreign languages and intercultural management);
- the ability to be rapidly operational. The program therefore has a highly practical focus (workshops, case studies, role-playing, etc.) alternating with apprenticeship periods in a company;
- the ability to assess the existing situation and participate in formulating policies in the different fields of human resources and labor relations thanks to a very solid grounding in the social sciences (sociology of organizations, the economics of work, social psychology).

Main orientations and specific features
The first semester is devoted to exploring the general operations of companies, and the first year to acquiring a solid foundation in management. First semester classes are common to the Management of Human Resources, the Finance and Strategy, and the Marketing and Market Research Master programs. The second semester focuses on theoretical aspects of social science and human resource management, on the social sciences and the development of a professional project in order to prepare students for their apprenticeship year. This theoretical approach is reinforced by applications to real-world situations, so as to provide an understanding of the analysis of human relations in all its complexity, especially through sociological studies.
The second year is devoted to enhancing students’ professional skills and is based on an alternate work/ study program. Students sign a 12-month apprenticeship contract and take on a specific assignment at management level, alternating one week of study with three weeks in the company. This formula puts the corporate world at the heart of the study program and allows students to combine their knowledge of theoretical concepts with hands-on experience.
Career opportunities
The program aims to train human resources professionals for positions as human resource managers and true HR specialists. Recent graduates work as operations managers, consultants, and project coordinators, and pursue careers in consulting, recruitment, HR research, labour relations, employment, HR communications, training and placement, and talent management, among others.
